BUCS Awards 2024
In a year marked by exceptional achievements in university sport, the BUCS Awards have revealed their 2024 shortlist, celebrating the finest teams, individuals, and initiatives. With hundreds of nominations submitted, the competition was intense, making it a significant honour to be among the finalists.
Among the standout nominees, Grace Harvey from The University of Manchester has been nominated for Sportswoman of the Year in para-swimming.
In addition to this remarkable success, Megan Bassett, our incoming Sports Sabbatical Officer, has won the North West regional award for the Chris Potter Student Volunteer category.

Sportswoman of the Year, sponsored by Outgoing
Grace Harvey, a master’s student at The University of Manchester, has been nominated for Sportswoman of the Year, recognising her dedication to para-swimming. Representing Great Britain, Grace’s journey began through swimming as part of her physiotherapy, leading to classification at age 11.
Grace stands as one of the University of Manchester’s most accomplished athletes. Over the past year, she has achieved remarkable success, securing three golds at the BUCS Nationals Long Course Championship, gold at the Para Swimming European Championships, and silver at the Para Swimming World Championships. These outstanding accomplishments have earned her a place on the Paralympic GB team for the 2024 Paralympic Games.
Her story exemplifies resilience and inspiration, illustrating how dedication and hard work can overcome challenges. As Grace prepares for the Paralympics in Paris in July, The University of Manchester celebrates her significant contributions to sport. With numerous achievements already under her belt, we eagerly anticipate her future accomplishments.
Chris Potter Student Volunteer of the Year
Megan Bassett, the incoming sports sabbatical officer at the university, has shown exceptional commitment to volunteering, placing her at the forefront of the university sports community. Her selfless contributions and steadfast support have significantly enhanced the experiences of numerous student-athletes. Megan’s achievement as the Chris Potter Student Volunteer of the Year for the North West winner highlights her outstanding dedication to serving the student community.

The BUCS Awards ceremony, a highly anticipated occasion, is scheduled for Thursday, 18 July 2023, at the University of Warwick. This event promises to be a prestigious celebration of the remarkable achievements made by these exceptional individuals and programmes throughout the season. Attendees at the ceremony will have the chance to witness the recognition of outstanding sporting accomplishments and demonstrate their support for the nominees.
The BUCS Awards, known for their prestigious reputation, are set to bring together individuals and organisations from across the sports industry. Distinguished judges, including representatives from The FA, England Hockey, City Football Group, Wales Netball, SkySports, and many more, have been deeply impressed by the calibre of this year’s nominations. Making it to the shortlist itself a testament to the hard work, dedication, and talent of all those involved.
