The UK’s biggest and best 10k returned to the city on Sunday 26 September, and this year it was all about the comeback!
The event was an action-packed celebration of running, with the 10k and Half Marathon events taking place on the same day, whilst the Junior & Mini event ensured budding running stars of the future get their shot at glory.
The event is famous for its city centre route, buzzing atmosphere from start to finish, iconic music, and of course Mancunian spirit in abundance. With entertainment zones that celebrate local character and culture at every kilometre, some of the best (and loudest!) crowd support anywhere in the world, and all the action televised live on the BBC, this was an event day experience like no other.
Renowned for being fast and flat, Manchester’s original running event boasts a city centre start and finish, with Half Marathon and 10k routes showcasing some of Manchester’s most famous landmarks, including the iconic football stadiums.
The greatest reward in taking part is the sense of achievement as you cross the finish line, but a shiny new medal, a snazzy finishers t-shirt and a finisher’s bag filled with goodies awaited runners at the end of the run.
Great Run events are renowned for being well-organised, safe, and inclusive and the atmosphere and support is always unbelievable. Next years event will take place on the 15th May and UoM Sport will be working with the Great Run team to bring back the PurpleWave. Keep an eye on socials and the website for more information.
