About the Club

Manchester University Shotokan Karate Club welcomes students of all abilities and styles. The club is a member of Britain's largest single-style organisation, the Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB), and offers a wide range of competitions from the British University Nationals to the KUGB nationals and regionals (plus other smaller competitions, in both Kata and Kumite) and is taught by one of the UK's top instructors, Sensei Gary Harford 8th Dan. The standard of teaching at the club is extremely high, and this is reflected in club performance - with consistent BUCS success from not only our long time competitors but also our beginners - with members who started their training at Manchester going on to win medals at both BUCS and KUGB events. With members in several national teams, as well as a committed and hard working base of novice students, we are both a club of excellent performance, but also one committed to inclusivity. Sensei Gary Harford also teaches at Shotokan Karate Academy.

Club Philosophy

At MUSKC, we firmly believe that dedication and commitment are the ingredients of success - that a Black Belt is simply a White Belt who just kept going.
